Power in the Blood Power in the Blood Power in the Blood
The availibilty of powers is regualted by two things; the amount of power in the blood, and the type of blood. For type of blood see Heritage. The system for the amount of power regulates if the character is capable of doing the thing that his heritage allows. This system came out of two sources: Dworkin's quote about the Blood of Amber being good until the 3rd generation, and the prequal notion that of the children of Dworkin Oberon was the most in tune with the Pattern.

Starting Blood Power

  • The typical Shadowling has a 4 for Blood Power.
  • Shadowlings from Shadows of the Realm have 9.
  • Shadowlings from Real Planes have 19.
  • Shadowlings from Slivers have 38.
  • Sorcerers in Shadow may have anywhere from 10 to 50.
  • The typical Chaosite has a 50 for Blood Power.
  • There is no typical Amberite, there just arn't enough of them yet. Oberon had a 100. Calculate everyone else from there as shown below.

Power availability and results of activation

  • A character must have a Blood Power of at least 42 to walk the Logrus. Once he completes it his Blood becomes activated and moves up to a 50, unless it was already higher than that.
  • A character must have a Blood Power of at least 77 to walk the Pattern. Once he completes it his Blood becomes activated and moves up to 80, unless it was already higher than that. At the same time if the character has a Rebman reflection thier blood activates and moves up to a 75, just short of being able to walk the Pattern themselves.
  • To become an Advanced Pattern Initiate a character must have a Blood of at least 81. One higher than that they would be enpowered to when they walked the Pattern if they were below 80.

    Having Children

When two people have a child calculate the child's blood power by the formula:

    High Power - ((High Power - Low Power)/10) = Child's Power

    Implications

Dworkin can not walk the Pattern. He only has a Blood Power of 50. This is why the Unicorn and Dworkin needed Oberon to grow up in order to inscribe the real Pattern, so its defender would have a greater potential than all of his foes.

All long as Amberites have children with Shadowlings the Blood is only strong enough to allow them to walk the Pattern for 3 generations.
